WARREN, OHIO—FEBRUARY 12, 2026—The Raymond John Wean Foundation has approved grants totaling $64,500 to three organizations to support community revitalization, educational opportunity and public and civic sector leadership in the Mahoning Valley.
The organizations that received grants are:
- The Trumbull County Historical Society to purchase and maintain Black, Hispanic and Latinx artifacts for its planned Museum of Science Fiction & Fantasy Arts (MoSFA). Built around a large donation of Hollywood prop artifacts from a Warren native, MoSFA will be the country’s first museum of science fiction and fantasy genres. The museum, to be located in a historic building in downtown Warren, is expected to increase tourism and boost economic growth in the region. The collection of popular, high-value Black, Hispanic and Latinx items will help the museum attract a wider regional and national sci-fi fan audience, making it a welcoming and inclusive asset for the region.
- Communities in Schools of Ohio in support of its site coordinator at Stambaugh Charter Academy, a charter school serving nearly 480 K-8 students living in the city of Youngstown. Founded in 1993, Communities in Schools partners with schools to address systemic barriers in education that disproportionately impact students of color and those from low-income backgrounds through academic assistance, basic needs, life skills, college and career prep and behavioral interventions.
- Honesty for Ohio Education to support the planning and development of a Mahoning Valley organizing campaign. Founded in 2021, Honesty for Ohio Education is a nonpartisan statewide coalition of 90 partner organizations committed to ensuring all students can learn and thrive in equitable, inclusive educational environments. Amid significant changes to decades-old diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and programs, Honesty for Ohio Education is supporting local leaders with policy analysis, toolkits and convenings. The organization plans to strengthen its Mahoning Valley presence by hosting listening sessions and educating residents on engaging with school boards and elected officials.
The Wean Foundation invests in sound and thoughtful approaches to community revitalization, economic opportunity, educational opportunity and public and civic sector leadership. To learn more about the Wean Foundation’s grant opportunities, visit https://www.weanfoundation.org/apply-for-grants/.
